Friends for Life

Monday, April 9, 2012

What is the first thing that comes to your mind if I were to say six adults and four children (all under 3) under one roof?  Mine would be "stress". In the weeks leading up to the Sberna/Spillman visit I thought "what if we don't have enough food?", "what if the basement floods?", "what if the children don't get along?", "what if we run out of booze?".  All of the thoughts/stress melted away when we were all together.  I quickly realized that this is a group of people that genuinely likes to be together. That is what makes our friendship so easy. We had a blast and I can't wait to meet up again (this time I vote for the beach:).

I could not be more blessed to have these two amazing little ones in my life.

Another "oh brother" moment
What did I do to deserve these two?

Andrew Porter

Wednesday, April 4, 2012

It is with a heavy heart that I had to say goodbye to someone who was very special to me.

Circa 1996
Andrew was faithful. While we were never "boyfriend/girlfriend" I knew that he would always be there for me. Anytime I needed a date to a dance, wedding, or event, he was there. He was also ridiculously good looking which did not hurt:)

Andrew was patient. I was on the dance team and had to perform during one of the football games with a school dance to follow. I had my dress and supplies ready to change into after the performance. Andrew was my date. During the routine I completely bit it and fell in the mud.  I was a mess. Teenage girl Mandy fell apart, of course I thought it was the end of the world. I remember how patient Andrew was driving me home to get cleaned up.

Andrew was brilliant. Not only because of advanced classes and high test scores, but his mind worked like nothing I have ever seen. With brilliance comes stubbornness.  Sometimes he did not make the best decisions, but it was not because he was not smart!

Andrew was kind. My first year in college he attended Auburn and would send me hand written letters checking in to see how I was doing. Anytime I was having a bad day, I knew I could call him to cheer me up...I can still hear him on the other end of the phone "Hey Mandy-Man!".

It is for all of these reasons that I know he was an amazing husband and father.  His son Ethan will be one on May 24, 2012 and he was one lucky little boy to have Andrew in his life for those 10 months. While it pains me that we lost touch over the years it also fills me with happiness that I was able to love and be loved by someone so special.  May you rest in peace Andrew.

What's your favorite color baby?

My parents agreed to take the boys for the weekend. Let's just say that Saturday morning included me skipping around the kid free house ready to tackle a long to do list. Everyone did great and the boys were able to be in Big Blue country when the Cats beat the Cards to move on to the Final Four.  Go Cats (and thanks Mom and Dad:)

Ain't No Future In Yo Frontin'

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

In college I listened to "Ain't No Future in Yo Frontin" by Bootleg/MCBreed no less than 1000 times (remember this Kelly?).  There is a line in the song when he says "I got dollars in my pocket not from rollin', I'm a Navigator rider it ain't stolen".  Wip and Preston totally took me back to listening to that song when they went riding in the pink Navigator.  Check it out...
On the way home from playing with Preston, Aunt Fe Fe gave Wip a popsicle.  He does not really have the eating a popsicle and walking thing down.  Duncan and I were a few houses ahead and I looked back and said "Wip, pick it up buddy" and he responded "but mommy I not drop anything". Gosh he makes me laugh.
