Mercury Madness

Have you ever heard of Mercury retrograde?

I am not a huge follower of astrology, but for whatever reason this hit home for me.

Apparently when the planet Mercury starts turning backward, things start getting weird. You will mess up your calendar, things will get cancelled, machines will break down, etc.

In the past week, I have messed up two appointments and our washing machine is broken. Mercury retrograde or coincidence? I think the biggest shock to the system was that yesterday Wip took a nap (gasp!).

There was also a little confusion with our schedule on Tuesday. I needed Patrick to be home at 5:30 so I could head to a dinner downtown and he does not leave softball practice until 5:30. I told David to watch the boys until Patrick got home (about 10 minutes). Patrick came home to find Wip in front of a big bowl of ice cream and Duncan sucking on a lollipop...best babysitter ever?

Happy 4th Birthday John!

Saturday, March 9, 2013

Shiver me timbers!

We went to a pirate party today to celebrate one of Wip's best buddy's 4th birthday.

Let's just say, it did not disappoint.

Just by the invitation...we knew it was going to be a treat!

X marks the spot!

Captain Hook, is that you?

Yes, she made these...adorable.

Time to sing!

Yum yum!

Presents!

Ready, set, treasure hunt!

Off they go looking for treasure...

Score!

Plenty of treats for everyone

Lucy, could you be any cuter?

This is what Wip did when I asked how the party was...

He could not wait to get home to share is pirate treats with Duncan

Duncan was pretty impressed.

The cousins got together for an afternoon of water tables and Lonnie's hot dogs.

I must say that it was the first time that the boys have been old enough to really play together. It was so much fun to see. I just kept thinking in a few years you will not even notice the age difference. You have Wip (almost 4), Lucas (almost 3), Duncan (almost 2) and Hunter (15 months). Crazy!
It started off so innocent, just some cousins playing at the water table

Then the shirts came off

Sweetest boy

A soaked little Duncan driving the bus

You are reading this correctly...we purchased enough Lonnie's hot dogs to get a free one...eat your heart out Hunter Noble!

This is how the evening ended...in the bathtub!

Wacky Wednesday

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

We have been reading a lot of the Dr. Seuss book "Wacky Wednesday" lately and today it fit.

Duncan has an ear infection and Wip has green snot coming out of his nose so we skipped music class. This means we have not left the house in three days. Now that is wacky.

Wip is definitely not my arts and crafts kid. The stories of having a child that will doodle and draw for hours just does not apply with him. But letters. Oh my. He could talk and think about letters all. day. long. He asks about letters, he wants to know what words start with what letters, and he will generally drive anyone around him wacky asking "what does cow start with?". When I pulled out an old school Fischer Price desk, I had no idea the hours of entertainment it provided. Who needs doodles or drawing? Score.

Duncan was bathed, brushed, and pajamas on. We had read two books and it was time to put him to bed. Each night it is pretty darn cute to hear Wip from the bath tub calling out that he needs to give his "brudder" a hug and a kiss. Duncan waddled over to the bathtub and I was putting the books away. It took all of one second for me to look up and see Duncan's feet hanging out of the bathtub. Great. Luckily the giggles I heard from the boys made it not that big of a deal, but still a little wacky!

80's Kid

If I were only given two options that reminded me the most of my childhood it would be Michael Jackson and E.T. the Extra Terrestrial.

We went to the Zappo's Outlet last week. I was holding Duncan while browsing. "Thriller" by Michael Jackson came on and Duncan went nuts. He was shaking his head and bobbing up and down in my arms. He loved it. Since then we have been playing a lot of Thriller in the car. Wip appropriately asks for "the creepy howling song".

Listening to "Thriller" also prompted me to watch E.T. with Wip. Looking back, maybe not the most appropriate movie to watch with your almost 4 year old, but what is done is done. He sat on my lap the entire time. He asked a million questions. He fell in love with E.T. just like I did as a little girl. There is a scene when E.T. is sick and has turned a shade of white. Wip asked me if he was going to turn brown again. I told him that he just needed his mommy to come back and get him. With crocodile tears in his eyes he said "will his mommy come back to get him soon?". It was one of the sweetest moments to see such concern in his little heart.

The Very Busy Weekend

Monday, March 4, 2013

That caterpillar has nothing on the Mulloy family.

Saturday started with a bang. I went for a run and then worked at Animal Crackers while Patrick and the boys went for haircuts and the Home Depot first Saturday of the month project. Grams and Poppy came in for a visit (needed a little grandson fix) and we headed to KidFest at the convention center.
Lucas would have not minded standing in the huge line to get on the helicopter (we opted out:)

And he's off

Duncan had a tough time getting going:)

Checking out the trains

Carousel time!

After wearing the children out with bouncy houses and carousels it was time to head home to get ready for the Speed Ball. I had to giggle because our room looked like a teenage girl getting ready for some special event (or any event, really). Explosion! Ready, set, go, we headed to the ball. Patrick was a little under the weather, but it was such a FUN event. Good food, good people, good music, good times.
Speed Ball 2013

We are family

There was a lot of man love in the house
Sunday started at Toast for brunch with Emily and then Trader Joe's. We went to see Peter Pan at KCD that afternoon. A-MAZ-ING. Our very own babysitter, Cat, was Peter Pan and she did the most amazing job (she even flew over the audience!)...so proud of that gal. Wip stayed memorized through the entire 3 hour performance...Duncan, not so much.

Shooo, exhausted just typing it out...until next weekend:)

Our friend came over for a visit yesterday.
