KinderCare

Friday, May 25, 2012

Today was Duncan's last day at KinderCare. When I told Ms. Leigh Ann that we would be leaving to go to the Temple next year, tears started streaming down her face, she apologized and said "there are just some kids that you become more attached and Duncan is one of those kids".  So sweet.

We have LOVED everything about this place from the flexibility of working with me when I was late to pick up Duncan to the wonderful care that Duncan received from Ms. Chris and Ms. Leigh Ann.  We will miss you dearly and cannot thank you enough for taking such good care of our little boy.

You never want your child to be sick, but...

This is where I found Wip before I left for work this morning

Wip has been a little under the weather this week.  His last day of being a turtle we received a phone call that "he was just not being himself" along with a 102 temp (yikes). While I hate the fact that he is feeling bad I do welcome the extra snuggles and sweetness that come along with it. Here are some examples:

  • Anytime I ask him if he would like to watch a TV show I always say "Wip do you want to watch a little Olivia?" this has carried over to Wip thinking that every show starts with "a little".  For example, when we brought him home from school on Tuesday he said "mommy, do you want to watch a little Timmy Time?"...it was pretty cute.
  • Dancing. Just because you are sick does not mean that you can't wiggle just a little bit. While dancing to "Ring of Fire", Wip asked me who was singing.  I told him Johnny Cash.  He looked up and said "yeah, sometimes Johnny Cash sings in daddy's car too".  I lost it.
  • Teaching. Wip has become very big on "teaching" Duncan. He informed me that we need to teach him how to walk and talk. This week he has been trying to show Duncan how to say "more" in sign language. While this is very sweet it might be a curse if Duncan learns this word because I have a feeling he will be eating us out of house and home!
  • Extra snuggle time. Last night Wip woke up crying. He just wanted to be held. We quietly snuck into Baby Duncan's room and I rocked him to sleep and wished that the moment would never end.
In Duncan news...look who is (almost) walking!

Mom's Day at the Temple

Sunday, May 20, 2012

On Friday it was Mom's Day at the Temple. Upon arrival the mommy's sat down to delicious tea and cupcakes with our little ones. We then watched a circle time and I knew that this preschool is worth every penny.  It was not so much what Wip was telling Ms. Marie (that is a triangle, blue is the color of the cookie monster, etc.) it was the fact that he was sitting among 12 other children and raising his hand (patiently) to be called on. It is one thing to know your colors, numbers, etc. it is a completely different thing to learn how to be patient so I can't thank Ms. Marie and Ms. Tara enough for all that they have done for my little boy.

The sweetest pillow gift ever!
After the tea/circle time/gift presentation we all gathered for a school wide puppet show.  It was clear that these folks have visited the school before because the children were very excited and knew most of the questions they asked before getting started. The show was Jack and the Beanstalk and it was pretty cute. Wip was mesmerized by it. After the show I noticed that he immediately went up to the lady in charge of the puppets. When I walked up to see what was going on she was laughing so hard and nodding along with everything Wip was telling her. It turns out, he thought that she should be aware of what she missed. He was explaining that there was a giant, a cow, and a beanstalk in the show. Very nice of him not to want to leave folks out of the fun.

As if Mom Day, puppet shows, and getting to leave early with mommy was not enough.  I had to go back to KCD to get my computer and it happened to be Exploremore (a.k.a the most insane field day that you have ever witnessed).  We drove up and saw REAL horses on the campus so of course we had to stop and say "hello".

Happy Birthday Duncan!

Friday, May 18, 2012

I remember being pregnant with Duncan and scared that I would not be able to love him as much as I love Wip.

In the hospital as he was laying on my chest, it almost felt like my heart expanded and made room for this amazing little boy to be loved just as much.

He makes me laugh, he calms me, he idolizes his big brother, he has completed our family, and it gives me so much happiness to wish this sweet, sweet boy a very happy 1st birthday!

This makes me so proud.

Highlights of the Week

It is only Wednesday and I already have highlights!

Some might say that I favor Duncan. As most children do he is going through a phase in which he throws his food. I must admit that I have been a little more lax in telling him "no" in some areas then I was with Wip (this is partially because watching over two little ones is much different that watching over one).

The other day Duncan decided to throw some food and started giggling.  His daddy told him "no, no, we don't throw food" which was followed by a most adorable smile. It happened again, and this time mommy looked him in the eye and said in the most stern voice I have ever used with this precious pumpkin "no! we do not throw food". Well the lip poofed  out, the tears started flowing, and I clearly realized that discipline is the hardest part of parenting.

Auntie is on bed rest. In the car on the way home from school I was trying to explain to Wip that we needed to stop at the store to make Auntie and Uncle Scotty dinner because she was on bed rest.  He automatic response was "why?".  I said, "why do you think Auntie is on bed rest?" in which he responded "because she has that baby in her belly".  It was right!

Duncan received a mailing about his shareholders meeting in June with Churchill Downs...he is diligently preparing for it.

Finally, we went to the place that I loath (Henry's Ark) with friends yesterday (Coop informed me that the zoo had too many hills for an 8 month pregnant lady...good point). John looks thrilled with the cat.
